Q[Tutoring] I would like to meet in person with the professor Can I request face-to-face consultations?
A

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, real-time tutoring is provided strictly online through video conference. Please contact the Writing Center if you would like face-to-face sessions.

Q[Tutoring]  I would like to get consultations focusing on correct grammar usage and natural expression at the sentence level. Can I get help from the Writing Center?
A

The tutoring program does not provide proofreading services. The Writing Center provides advice and consultations focusing on the overall content structure of the manuscript, logical flow, and correcting frequent grammatical errors. However, it is the discretion of the professor to provide consultations focusing on suggesting or making revisions regarding repetitive grammatical errors or awkward expressions found throughout the manuscript. 

Q[Tutoring] Can I apply for consultations on a manuscript other than those set forth as qualifying for tutoring?
A

Undergraduate students can get consultations on any manuscripts related to presentations and writing (book reviews, research reports, reviews, journal articles, essays, presentations, etc.). Graduate students can get consultations on any seminar presentation materials (PPT, script, etc.) and academic manuscripts (degree dissertation abstracts, journal articles, etc.). Please contact the Writing Center for consultation requests on manuscripts other than those listed above.


Q[Tutoring] What should I do if I applied for tutoring but need to change the file that requires tutoring?
A

You cannot change an uploaded file after you have applied for tutoring. Please cancel the application and submit a new application with the new file.


Q[Tutoring] What should I do if I applied for tutoring but need to cancel due to changes in my schedule?
A

Undergraduates may cancel applications for tutoring through the website if the application is “pending approval”. Contact the Writing Center directly if you wish to cancel an application stated as “application complete” on the website. Graduate students may cancel applications for tutoring through the website if the application status indicates “consultation scheduled”. Contact the Writing Center directly if you wish to cancel an application stated as “consultation pending”. 


Q[Tutoring] I am experiencing writer’s block and struggling with a presentation/essay. Can I apply for consultation without a full manuscript?
A

Yes. Apply for real-time tutoring and leave a memo about the difficulties you are experiencing in the memo section of the application. However, please note that for graduate students, consultation on rough drafts are provided only for Korean tutoring.

Q[Tutoring] On average, how many days does it take to receive written feedback after applying for tutoring?
A

Written tutoring feedback will be sent within 5 to 7 days (excluding holidays) from the date of application. Make sure to apply in advance to allow for enough time until you get your written feedback as the time it takes will vary depending on the professor’s schedule. Once the feedback is uploaded, the applicant will be notified via SMS or Email.
